Gravel Calculator

Plan a gravel order from a rectangle, circle or measured area. Keep the finished layer separate from loose material, then compare volume, weight, bags, loads and optional supplier cost.

Turn project dimensions into an order quantity.

CALCULATION SETUP

Inputs

Planning estimate; replace with your supplier's loose bulk density.

%

10% means order 1.10 × finished volume before waste; this is not a density conversion.

%

Assumptions & checks

Bulk density varies with grading, moisture and handling. Presets are editable planning estimates; confirm the supplier's density and order unit.

Compaction allowance adds loose volume. Do not apply a second supplier compaction factor to the same quantity.

Formula

Loose order volume includes independently entered waste and compaction allowances. Density applies to that loose order volume.

A = L×W or πD²/4; Vnet = A×depth; Vorder = Vnet×(1+w/100)×(1+c/100); mass = Vorder×density; coverage = Vavailable/[depth×(1+w/100)×(1+c/100)]

Frequently asked questions

Are tons and tonnes the same?

No. A metric tonne is 1,000 kg; a US short ton is 2,000 lb. Both are labelled separately so the order matches your supplier.

How does reverse coverage work?

Available loose volume is divided by depth and both allowance factors. Weight is converted using the entered loose bulk density. Bags and loads are rounded up only at the order unit.
