Assumptions & checks

Two-support rigid-vehicle static model only. No articulated trailer, individual multi-axle distribution, dynamic braking, road legality or chassis approval. Negative axle reaction is rejected.

Formula

Estimate static front and rear axle reactions from cargo masses and center positions

For equivalent supports distance L apart, rear added mass=Σ(mi·xi)/L, front added=Σmi−rear added. Add measured empty axle masses; compare entered ratings. Worked example: Empty axles 2500/2500 kg, supports 4 m apart and 2000 kg cargo at x=3 m gives 3000 kg front and 4000 kg rear.

Using the default values shown in the calculator, the same formula gives the following result. This is a quick sanity check for the calculation, not a design recommendation.

Frequently asked questions

What does this result tell me?

Two-support rigid-vehicle static model only. No articulated trailer, individual multi-axle distribution, dynamic braking, road legality or chassis approval. Negative axle reaction is rejected.

How can I check the calculation?

Worked example: Empty axles 2500/2500 kg, supports 4 m apart and 2000 kg cargo at x=3 m gives 3000 kg front and 4000 kg rear. Review each stated input and unit; use project-specific values rather than treating the editable example as a requirement.
