Loading Meter Calculator

Convert a packing list into an equivalent trailer floor-space estimate. Enter footprint dimensions and confirmed pieces per stack for each row, then compare loading metres, trailer percentage and Euro-pallet footprint equivalents.

Change any input to update the calculation. Unit changes preserve the physical quantity.

CALCULATION SETUP

Inputs

Cargo footprints and confirmed stack counts

Cargo row 1

Use 1 for non-stackable cargo. This is your verified handling/height assumption, not a stacking recommendation.

Enter 0 to omit shipment weight if any row is unknown.

Assumptions & checks

This is a geometric planning estimate. It does not validate compression strength, stacking capacity, restraints, load stability, axle loads or structural ratings.

A footprint estimate can understate space when cargo orientations, gaps, access or irregular shapes prevent efficient packing. Euro-pallet equivalents refer to 1.2 × 0.8 m area only.

Some cargo unit weights are unknown. A total shipment weight is not reported.

Formula

Floor positions are rounded up separately per row after the entered stacking assumption. Loading metres are an area-equivalent convention, not a geometric trailer loading plan.

positionsi = ceil(qtyi / confirmed stack counti); footprint = Σ(Li Wi positionsi); LDM = footprint / usable trailer width; trailer share = LDM / trailer length × 100

Frequently asked questions

Is one Euro pallet always 0.4 LDM?

A 1.2 × 0.8 m footprint divided by 2.4 m usable width gives 0.4 m. Different usable width, handling space or orientation restrictions change the practical allocation.

Why is stacking rounded per row?

A partial stack still consumes a floor position. Different SKUs are not assumed to share a stack, so each row uses its own whole position count.

Does this validate axle loads or stack strength?

No. It estimates equivalent floor space. Weight distribution, trailer ratings, cargo restraint and compression limits need separate verification.
