Air Freight Chargeable Weight Calculator
Build a mixed-carton air-cargo estimate from dimensions and gross package weights. Compare shipment-level and per-piece billing conventions, then apply your carrier's divisor, minimum and rounding increment explicitly.
Change any input to update the calculation. Unit changes preserve the physical quantity.
Inputs
Enter the carrier/service rule; this unit remains cm³/kg even when cartons use inches or feet.
cm³/kgEnter 0 for no rounding. Per-piece mode rounds each carton before summing.
Your local currency per kg. The rate basis stays kg when display units switch.

Assumptions & checks
Divisor, piece-vs-shipment comparison, rounding and minimums vary by carrier and service. Confirm the actual tariff; this tool does not quote surcharges or guarantee an invoice.
Dimensions and weights are per external carton. Do not enter the row's combined gross weight as weight per carton.
Formula
Dimensions normalize to metres first. The specified divisor is cm³/kg; per-piece and shipment-total comparisons can produce different charges for mixed dense and bulky cartons.

Frequently asked questions
Why can per-piece billing be higher?
A dense carton and a bulky carton can offset each other when totals are compared. Per-piece rules compare and round each individual carton before summing, so that offset is unavailable.
Is 6,000 the universal air divisor?
No. It is a named air-freight reference convention. Express services may use 5,000 or another factor; use the value specified by your carrier.
Can I mix centimetres and inches?
Yes. Each row retains its selected units and normalizes independently before volume, dimensional weight and gross weight are summed.

- DSV: volumetric and chargeable weight conventions
Air-freight example uses 6,000 cm³/kg. Carrier divisors, rounding scope, minimums and W/M ratios are editable and must be checked against the actual tariff.
- DHL Express: volumetric weight example
Example express divisor is 5,000 cm³/kg. This is a service-specific preset, not a universal air-freight rule.
